Volkswagen’s New Beetle has been on the market now for more than ten years and has enjoyed relatively strong sales. More than one million New Beetles have been built at Volkswagen’s Puebla plant in Mexico and it looks like developers have even more ambitious plans for the next-gen model, which is expected to arrive sometime in 2011 for the 2012 model year.

Volkswagen now offers three powertrain options in the Touareg: a 3.0-liter TDI clean diesel V6, a 3.6-liter FSI V6, and an all-new 3.0-liter TSI supercharged hybrid V6.  These engines will work in tandem with Volkswagen’s first eight-speed transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

That hybrid engine is likely the biggest news, as it is Volkswagen’s first production hybrid electric vehicle.  The hybrid and fuel systems, when working together, produce a total of 380 horsepower and 428 ft-lb of torque.  Despite producing so much power, the hybrid Touareg offers V8 power with better efficiency than a V6 engine.

The 2011 version of the classic Volkswagen Jetta has been amped up with fresher styling, larger dimensions, both exterior and interior, and a new 4-cylinder engine.  The 2011 model is more than 3.5 inches longer than the prior generation Jetta, with 2.6 inches more rear legroom than the previous Jetta models.

The standard engine is a new gasoline powered 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. Also available is a 170-horsepower 2.5-liter 5-cylinder engine, which carries over from the previous-generation Jetta.  All have standard manual transmissions, but automatic transmissions will be available on certain trim levels as well.

The GLI and TDI models will offer a 6-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission that behaves much like an automatic. Available safety features on the new Jetta include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, and front-side airbags. Heated seats, keyless entry/engine start, and a navigation system will also be available.
