Interior

Exterior

With dual remote-controlled power-sliding doors, there’s no need to push any big doors open or closed – just push one little button. Push the other little button to raise and lower the windows. A feature that’s a breath of fresh air not found on most conventional minivans.

The remote-controlled power lift gate and integrated lighting are handy for opening and closing the rear door, since you probably have your hands full already. This system uses ultrasonic sound waves to let you know when you’re getting close to whatever’s behind you, so you don’t back into anything except an empty parking space.

The electronic theft-deterrent system senses if a door, the hood, or the trunk is opened while the vehicle is locked. Then it alerts you (and everybody in a five-block radius) by triggering the lights to flash and the horn to sound. It also disables the ignition when armed. So your Routan stays just that – yours.

The electronically regulated hydraulic braking system helps keep you from sliding under hard braking by preventing wheel lock-up, which also allows you to maintain steering control. ABS can also stand for Always Brake Safely.

In conjunction with the ABS, ASR and EDL systems, plus additional sensors, the Electronic Stabilization Program helps the driver maintain their intended course during evasive maneuvering, like avoiding an accident, by applying brake pressure to specific wheels.

The Volkswagen Routan obtained the highest crash test rating awarded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) New Car Assessment Program.

Sometimes, drivers will apply the brake quickly, but without enough pressure to activate the ABS system. VW’s HBA recognizes how quickly the brakes were pressed, and automatically kicks in maximum ABS effectiveness to give you maximum deceleration.
Sensors check if any of the tires are losing air. And through a warning indicator on the instrument panel, you’re the first to know when a tire’s low. Well, the second to know – after the TPMS.
